Abraham Lincoln led the fight to save the Union and end slavery.  When Abe was young he did not have good education but he would walk miles to go to libraries to rent books.  Abe was known for his honesty.

Lincoln received his license to practice in 1836.  He was elected to Congress as a Whig in 1847.  Then he quit politics and returned to Springfield, Illinois to practice law again and became one of the best-known lawyers in Illinois.

In 1858 Lincoln left the Whigs to join the anti-slavery Republican party.  He wanted to run against Douglas for the Senate.  Lincoln challenged Douglas to a series of debates.   Although Lincoln lost the election, the debates made him nationally famous; he was nominated for presidency in 1860.

On April 14,1865, five days after the surrender of Confederate forces, Lincoln was attending the theater with his wife, when a man named John Wilkes Booth crept up from behind and shot him in the head.  The president died the next day.  Speaking for the sorrowing nation, one Cabinet member said, “Now he belongs to the ages.”

From the book “Meet Mr. President”

An Inca girl found Mummified Naturally

500 year old girl’s face looks tranquil.  They got her drunk of beer and she was numb from the altitude and the freezing snow before she was wrapped in blankets and brightly colored cloth and buried alive and buried alive.

The Inca girl’s face is the most perfectly preserved of its age ever found.  There were also another girl and a boy that were naturally mummified at the coldness and height which meant lack of oxygen.  They were found 22,000 feet up on the summit of the Llulllaillaca volcano.

CAT scans show her last meals and that her organs are still intact.  She was about 14 years old when buried.

These victims  were most likely to be offered to the sun god, who was associated with the emperor.   One of the skulls found were deformed by tight binding from birth to look like the mountains.
